Awake our voices

It’s about the civil rights movement! I made it after a test so I will accept all criticism!

I may not have been born that day

But I know the way

What they say 

And what they craved

But I know what they say

“Marching Washington

will reign today”

As they were lead

Some of them dead

But fighting for right

Was worth the price

Making choices for right 

Would change the night

For the night may change in the light

We could hide and pray

But what would that make

If we went the extra miles

We would lie awake

For the light had come this way

Now to this day we will live awake

As we were blessed with the voice

The voice WE will make

And speak up for another day.

This is a call to action that reflects the empathy and conviction of "the civil rights", and to crafting poetry, aswell. The stanzas are mixed length, which seem to carry the organic expression of individuals who yet combine into the collective. (Which brings to mind songs like "get up. Stand up" & "wake up and live").
If this poem is anything to go by, I'd imagine you did o.k. on that test, Jordan!
