Too Tired

Too Tired

A Poem by Corinna Bridgebury

Night walk
Grey slide
Down, down, down
Into apathy
And I no longer
Try to fight off
My own worst enemy -
Me.
Why does anyone put up with me?
The thought
like a knife in the gut
Makes me gasp
It is truth
It is lies.
I have a defense
But not the energy to muster it
So I lay back
And let my self-loathing
Steal it all.
Tomorrow I'll fight
To regain my confidence
But not tonight.
