How the Binary Failed Me Today.

The gender binary is harmful and doesn't make any sense. This is a poem (if it can be called that) about some of the ways the binary has failed me today.

 

These some terms that make me feel correct, happy, and okay with who I am in this moment. These are what I am:  Genderqueer                                               Transmasculine                                                    Genderfluid                                    Transgender             

  Boy                                     S/he                             Guy            Polygendered                                                            Sir

The gender binary does not even acknowledge the existence of two thirds of these genders and gender terms. The other two words included are ones I am not allowed to use, because of the biology I was born with. Because of the binary, I am forced into the tiny boxes of:

 

Female

Woman

Girl

I do not fit into these boxes.

This is how the gender binary has failed me.
