Leave me my love

Depression affects both partners

Pour me my coffee, light my cigerette,
then LEAVE me my darling and try to forget.

For I am a shadow, a phantom unreal,
a man that is broken with no way to heal.

My mind is another's his voice full of hate,
that causes you tears in endless berate.

My hands are unsteady, my legs aid me not,
best you just leave me alone and forgot.

My tongue he has poisoned with paranoid lies,
and set such distrust in my once laughing eyes.

My words are like daggers wounding you so,
hurting me deeply, PLEASE my love GO.

I drink my coffee, smoke my cigerette,
and as morning weeps softly I too will forget.

Aw, so sad. This reminds me of the situation a character of mine in a continuous story is currently in. She doesn't know whether or not she's in love, but she's fairly attached to another character. It just broke my heart.

Beautifully written...captures the essence of depression well. I love the rhthym of the poem. It flows so easily. I can clearly picture him sitting at a table, head in his hands, as she stands across the room crying. Depression hurts everyone in its wake....
