Woman

Woman

A Poem by Rebecca Isherwood
"

From the High School Era, part of an exercise where we looked at a photograph and wrote about it.

"

I went to look up to the fluffy white clouds
And what do I see? The floor in front of me.
My hair falls down, but reaches for the sky
I watch the ground, Amazed and mystified
My mind spins around and sadness returns
I can’t help think of my friend, in my mind her image burns
The recent tragedies made her face stretch so long
I can tell in her heart there plays a sad song
Her delicate figure cloaked in dark curls
Seeing her this way, my sympathy unfurls
Her deep inner turmoil shows right through
If only I knew what I could possibly do
To ease the pain and stop the rain
It’s not as if I’m trying to be vain
But she doesn’t look good, unhealthily pale
She needs comfort so my love I’ll unveil
I’ll take care of her and nurse her back to health
Then I shall help her bask in her wealth
I’ll explain to her how someone did her wrong
The things she still has, that she does belong
