15:15A Poem by IWASNEVERTHERE
I am not looking for love
But then morning passes The moon reminds me sleepless nights are starting to become more than a habit The stars begin to lose their glow And I know words do more damage than stones Broken bones may heal but hearts stop after that last dial tone at 3am My mind starts to recreate imaginary conversations like "Hey, I miss you" I reply I know We speak I love yous over memories I wish we had I stand with lips tainted with words I've spoken before Holding love like a child with bruised knees You said you wouldn't let go The nights we found what love is With minds too gone to focus My darling my darling Promise me luxury Promise me roses and then be death of me There's more to science than just chemistry Shouldn't we Be the first to question what is and what shouldn't be Like does Cupid only take aim when we have our guards down? Are fairy tales ending only tales to remedy broken hearts? But yet we stand on this alter Preaching sermons of forever Praying we last longer than our already broken promises The tears drop like rain fall Beautiful yet haunting A backdrop for our already bruised egos We stand in line to purchase a peace of mind Fingers intertwined Hearts beating like the drums we've learnt to beat back Back back Back to when Fridays were our favourite days And Saturdays seem to fly into Sundays when you'll walk away With bags under your arms and eyes from sleepless days Back to when butterflies found homes in our stomachs and stars Stars forget the concept of time when I gaze into your eyes And the sun The sun did shine but only second to your smile Back when we believed in the concept of love Back when we were young enough to forget time passes Love fades away Hearts move on in search of temporary homes Our tears dry into landmarks we often forget existed Back when our broken promises were spoken birds perched atop an alter © 2019 IWASNEVERTHERE |
