Daily Benedictions

Daily Benedictions

A Poem by J Todd Underhill
"

"

My lord please forgive me,

For I have not shown enough thanks.

My gifts laid out for the world to see,

My words, my wit and also my pranks.

All I am, is through your power,

All the blessings you have given.

A gift in every new day and hour,

By your will I am still livin’

Through your son’s blood I am saved,

Though I feel I should be condemned.

The forgiveness for which I craved,

You’ve wipe away my every sin.

I know I am a disobedient son,

A slave unto my mortal skin.

Thankful for the atonement done,

I repent of my human sin.

I may fail daily in my attempts,

But I try and pick myself up once more.

Your son’s penance now exempts,

Whom I worship and adore.

Thank you for all that you provide,

Daily benedictions that I accept.

I profess now with great pride,

Within your kingdom I will be kept.

oh dearest J Todd ... thank you for this outpouring of our "selves" stripped bare of pretense and avoidance .. I so relate to this one in such a big way .. have you read any of the writings of St. Theresa of Avila? She also pours her heart and soul out before the Lord and begs mercy and forgiveness .. not out of guilt .. but out of honesty and sincere desire to be closer to the Lord Jesus and our eternal Creator Father .. love this poem sir ... kudos and bravo ... from the bottom of me ol' hide and soul .. we are all in continual need of an awareness of our weakness and failures .. love you
