Dirt

Dirt

A Poem by J. C. Koch

There dirt under my nails
And dirt is all I'm seeing.
With my trusty shovel
Myself, I am burying.

Six feet under the ground
And so much further to go.
In my hole I keep digging.
The dirt is all I know.

Soon down and gone,
I try to dig my way out,
But digging isn't the answer.
I know this without a doubt.

But until i find another way
A tunnel Is my only hope.
Digging myself further in the dirt
It the only way I can cope.
