Breathing Fire

Breathing Fire

A Poem by J. C. Koch
"

Another from my vault of poems inspired by pictures I've found online.

"

A great superpower

My unique ability

The gift of the sun

A light in the dark

I can breathe fire

I cannot fly

And I cannot fight

But I can breathe fire

A terrible curse

Pure destruction

Destined to obliterate

Eternal anathema

I can breathe fire

My lungs always burn

And my mouth is ashes

But I can breathe fire

I am a phoenix

A beautiful life in the sky

Always burning into dust

Both beauty and death

Both grace and burn

Both blessing and curse

Two sides of a coin

Two sides to every life
