The Doomsday Clock ...in 12 lines

It's January 23rd, 2024. The Doomsday Clock keeper

moves the big hand ahead to 90 seconds before midnight.

"Is there still time to save ourselves?" asks a member of the press.

"Projections give us two, three years tops."

"What can save us?" another asks.

"Stopping wars? Curtailing climate change?

legislating AI? Nuclear bans?"

"Reversing human nature. Our lives, and therefore 

our interests, are short-term."

" ... But, that's impossible!"

~

"Don't despair, folks, we have the rest of 

our lives to do it."
