Ode to a Gnarly TreeA Poem by JE FalconI believe the title says it all. There is a twisted tree Down by the bay And the wind tried it's best To carry it away. But the tree said, "No! The Piper has been paid. Though I am twisted and gnarly I have not been waylaid."
So, the ocean took its turn At killing the tree With Saltwater drenching On its roots, you see. But the tree laughed and said, "I'm here to stay. The more twisted I become, The more kids come to play.
And sure enough The uglier the tree The more gnarly and twisted The branches came to be. It was just right for climbing, And musing in the shade, Writing odes to its Gnarly-ness, A tree not waylaid.
