What If?

What if...

that's all I'm thinkin'

 

What if I didn't travel this way?

what if she came with me?

what if I stayed with her?

what if she really loved me?

what if we weren't meant to be?

 

Tonight, I think about it all

think of my mistakes

and my regrets

but most of all I think of her

 

She was there through it all

put me in my place

and caught me when I fell

but there was something

something she'd never tell

 

Alone today, alone tomorrow

I sit and survive in sorrow

 

What if I told her

that I loved her?

what if I wasn't so scared

to say what I wanted?

 

I left that town

not so long ago

and I loved where I was

but now I hate where I am

 

We used to sit by the river

talk about everything

and what we thought

forever would bring

 

What if I hadn't left?

what if there was no other?

what if she was a mother?

what if I was a father?

what if we were meant to be?

The what if's leave us wishing for better endings and new beginnings. I like the thoughts in the poem. Open the door to questions. I like the closing questions. Allowed the reader to ponder your words. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

The main reason this poem is so amazing is that it is so easy to relate to that feeling of "What if". Those two words can move through our brains and cause a ripple effect it can causes a feeling of depression or paranoia or longing. It can even affect our actions. I loved this poem.
