That Cowgirl

That Cowgirl

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

She stared at me

From the back of her steed

I felt her eyes move up and down

Burning me like they desperately need

I've caught her out of

The corner of my eye

She looked so good

 So sweet and angelic

When she called me by name

 I felt my heart leap

My breath left me hangin'

And I thought oh Lord help me

That cowgirl roped me in

She took my heart right then

She gave me a chance

I never thought would come

I was a fool to leave

 For another dream

Out in Tennessee

I'm singin', not lovin'

I'm alone at night

Wishing I never left her

I reach for the phone

 And dial her number

 Just to hang up

That cowgirl long ago

Loved me to death

She was my one chance

I picked the phone up

And heard her voice say

"Come home, come stay"

" I love you, I can't live like this"

I flew down that interstate

 Back to her loving arms

Back to what I always wanted

That cowgirl I love

 Gave me the chance

To love her until I died...
