For The Future

For The Future

A Poem by J. F. Charleston

Yes, I've been wondering

yes, I've been dreaming

there is so much to find

all in a light so gleaming

so bright it blinds me

leaves me curious

I can't stop, it's a addiction

I keep thinking of her

my wife, my world

with her brown hair curled

and her eyes a mystery

The memories I've never seen

come to me and replay

with reality to delay

So many tell me don't worry

live here and now

I can't just turn away

from a world where I long to be

I guess I should leave it all

for the future.

I can't stop dreaming of my daughter

her golden hair and ocean eyes

my arms protecting her

putting her down for a goodnight sleep

The memories I've never seen

come to me and replay

with reality to delay

Oh, I can't quit watching my little boy

dressed up like his daddy

guiding a horse into the red barn

with his heart filled with a ride's joy

The memories I've never seen

come to me and replay

with reality to delay

So many tell me don't worry

live here and now

I can't just turn away

from a world where I long to be

I guess I should leave it all

for the future.

This was fantastic! You're so good at showing us how you feel in poems, especially this one. I loved the lines, "I can't stop dreaming of my daughter / her golden hair and ocean eyes / my arms protecting her / putting her down for a goodnight sleep." For me, this made the poem even sweeter, plus I was able to understand your feelings. It'll come one day! Just hang in there. Great job! Keep it up.
