The News

The News

A Poem by John Sullivan

morning dawns
a new day

the headlines silently scream
from the paper by the door

the byline of today
and the postscript of yesterday's trials

startled and alert

the ink flows off the newsprint
onto the floor
an ebon pool of intrigue
speaking in impartial tongues
of all the possibilities
the day may bring

have you heard the news today?

rays of light leak through the blinds
and the clock strikes the hour
the seconds have their say
but all the days are ours

My pleasure..
I feel a bit sorry for the newspapers with TV slowly but surely taking over
however, I still enjoy poking through the pages.

Love the back-and-forth of this one. I can see (although not mentioned) of a cup of coffee and the backdrop of the details in the room surrounding, Pages of news screaming out some Armageddon. This has a wonderful and heavy ease of imagery...chopping of line to line bringing out the juxtaposition of your room surrounding the news and images as if to say ...it all goes on. Thoroughly enjoyed this one~
