A Light in a Window

A Light in a Window

A Poem by John Sullivan

in my mind, i think
behind the creek
where the deer drink
upon the brink of evening

a small cabin
a solitary window

open shutters ablaze from the electric bulb above the sink

against the snow
forsaking the dark

an open window framed in night
i see a burning, phosphorescent white
i see in the dark
a solitary
light

Dear John, you create beautiful imagery with this write. I see contrasts, the blazing light of the bulb and the dark night . You stir the imagination with this creative poem. Atmospheric setting. All the very best to you.

Hi John
we see the light, but the mystery to me is what is behind that light, what transpires to warrant a peek into that mystery of a light, shining in darkness; this piece is hauntingly beautiful...

This is an interesting idea. From my perspective, it's like looking into an alternate reality. Through a window. What if the window was a portal into an alternate universe, the solitary cabin is the alternate world or maybe it leads to inner peace, the inner light of the soul. Could the cabin be the home of a soul, "Burning phosphorescent light" "solitary light" I could keep going... and keep thinking of parallel universes and the rabbit hole, that's probably just behind that cabin or maybe it's inside haha. My interpretation is probably more chaotic than the simplicity and serene scene of the cabin and the lake. But it certainly paints an image and inspires much intrigue.
