Mission Accomplished

Mission Accomplished

A Poem by John Sullivan

one time I read this book

about vengeance

belonging to the Lord

and to him alone

you

meek man

turn the other cheek

and love your neighbor

mind the migrant

the widow

the children

all those children

that book

that Book

I reckon

wasn’t worth the paper

it was printed on

Love thy neighbour, sadly John there’s not alot of that about at present. We live in dangerous and polarized times. A thoughtful write and ironic too.

I think you have given us a study in irony here. That book (I noticed you capitalized it toward the end) is probably the most simultaneously revered and ignored book in human history. The list of what it commands is also a catalogue of those things that are not done. If vengeance is truly the Lord's, I hope He (She, It or whatever) can be persuaded to look the other way occasionally.
