Hypnophobe

Hypnophobe

A Poem by John Juda Mitchell
"

It's complicated.

"

Looking out into night

contemplating this moment in time

Deciding whether I should join you in our bed
or entertain these long thoughts for a moment longer

Sheep counted, eyes bloodshot: tired but awake

I need comfort—beg for it

Where is my feeling of safety?

The trust in me falls away as I close my eyes

People tell me it's the house settling

I know it's more than that

My spectres have come to haunt my dreams.
