AquatintsA Poem by JohnLThe Shape of Words
Symbols of the Eucharist.
Aquatints fly across vaulted space,
settling on Rock of Ages’,
mason-marked blocks
receiving Heaven’s projections
Fluttered before worshippers’ eyes,
through drifting incense
sound, light,
vapour
crossed
by organ’s
counterpoint
and vertically rising song.
A
Wine-filled
chalice gleams; the
platter displays its bread;
Church on Earth communes
With God in Holy
Eucharist.
