The Coyote

The Coyote

A Poem by JPatrickAusanka

The Coyote howls
outside childhood windows
kills kittens, and the
dreams of small children.
Snarling in defiance behind
bloody teeth and
gnashing at the carcasses
of cattle and penny-well wishes
the scourge of the rancher
and dreaming children.
With menacing eyes,
(red with pain)
he waits for his kills.
His misery is deafening,
he is dark and lonely,
wishing he wasn’t
a coyote.
