They will all be strangers

They will all be strangers

A Poem by JPatrickAusanka

They will all be strangers,
at one time or another,

having been immersed in
consumer strategies

and narrative arcs or
news of a Texas mother

in a Texas cult, or what
 they would call a "sect".

All my friends are going to be
strangers, I think of McMurtry,

wonder if I will ever be
as poingent, full of willing

grace and taste or as witty
as he, I want to write like

Larry, type on old typewriters
not drown in a television sea.
