Ser Maya

Ser Maya

A Poem by JPatrickAusanka
"

I wrote this on the beaches of the Yucutan peninsula in the ancient Mayan city of Tulum

"

There, I wanted to be a Mayan.
Dark skin and black hair tossed in
yellow sunlight against the backdrop
of crystal oceans and stone cities,
on the Yucutan's beach of Carmen.

I would be ornate and divine,
my strong chin and nose displaying
my valor. I would walk along
the greenest grass paths, by
stone walls to the temple at dawn,

make love to supple Mayan women
dressed in obsidian and alabaster,
napping under afternoon bird songs,
singing lullabies with jungle frogs
to my children on cool evenings.
