Texas RiversA Poem by JPatrickAusanka
On afternoons of summer love, we
give thanks for green to the sun above
we float rivers in rubber inner tubes
laugh raucously, unhinge our blues In this labyrinth of water ways, where
college girls come splash and sun bathe
and reggae-rock and roll is played by drunks with floating CD players
where some old men in kayaks laugh
at the college boys trying to catch
those sweet flirtatious college girls
who have broken out to see the world.
Here, the rivers still flow free with
the force of Texas Outlaw ferocity,
but even rebels like some company
and pirates on these rivers we’ll be
singing pirate chats and swimming free.
Under afternoon sun on Texas Rivers
on the Comal, Guadalupe, or Blanco,
I love them all, but the San Marcos
I call my own, my favorite of them all.
