CrashA Poem by Jaclyn
I fell down the stairs today.
The left ankle buckled sideways, Hinge to a trapdoor, Tossing my body to the basement floor, Head clapping against the wall Before form sprawled like a starfish, Legs and arms in symmetrical points, A living compass. I swam in startled confusion, Sky walls and cloud ceiling Blurred with my tears of shocked pain, Throat choked shut with alarm and hope. Tentative rotations of my ankle Brought no bruised agony, And my spirits soared and crashed As I realized I could still go to work. © 2008 JaclynAuthor's Note
