What is this message and lesson

That must be recieved

Anguish, shame and remorse

 

Self loathing and hatred             

For ones actual existance

Will the representation protrayed in the mirror

Ever hope to alter

Windows to the soul gaze back wordlessly

Haunted, desolation , darkness

Are what they partly express

The rest concealed from the world

Creating a dark blanket obscuring the mind

Self-preservation. Reading your poem felt like I was reading what my "quote" thing for my page, means!! : ) Even if a goal is to be tried, and even implemented in the end, there's always something to reach for. When you are little, you are programmed to notice fantasy, jobs people have where playing a hero's role is championed..... like cops-firefighters-EMT's etc...., From the very start we are asked what we want to be when we grow up, but no one informs us when that "growing up" starts. There are set backs and trials that get in the way of our heart and focus. The second half of your poem reminded me of those days when it seemed so far away, to reach ANY kind of goal!! My mind and parts of my past that held within it a kind of guilt that didn't even have a noticeable hurdle to get over, felt like this dark blanket you speak of. It took me to just trying to write "poetry" this past year..... since the Fall of 2011. Since then, there has been no night terrors, anger, rapid depression, and/or even stress that would sneak up out of nowhere. I like your poem.... its many levels and "lesson". In the title, you have a "U" in the word "amongst". xoxo -Mark
