The sun will burn if you don't protect
Snakes are dangerous that's why we respect
Fire ants bite so stay away
Chewing on a match keeps chiggers away
Yellow Jacket nests are hard to kill
Chicken salad tastes better with dill
Don't walk outside barefoot at night
Insult my sister and we're going to fight
Don't touch that plant its poison oak
We like our eggs with a little bit of yoke
Yes it's true we all eat grits
A salad ain't right without bacon bits
We always honor and respect our elders
Not all of us are professional welders
We like old cars that are really fast
The future is important, but we love our past
We're laid back and easy and rarely fuss
On TV they like to make fun of us
We don't really care about what you think
We'll just sit on our porch and have a drink

I love the point of view most of all . . . a little sassy toward any possible "making fun of" the southern ways, the culmination being your pot shot: "not all of us are professional welders." You've touched on many important points here, drawing from a variety of life, which also makes this a fun well-delivered message. Thank you. I'm from the deep south. I was born in Kentucky but grew up in Georgia and Alabama and I always get ticked at the Southern stereotypes, but I embrace many of them as well. This was meant to be a mixture of both fun and a screw you to all the people who think we're all backwoods hillbillies who chew tobacco and roll cigarettes in our sleeves. But I wanted to to do it real southern like and be nice.

Actually, these kinds of people live all around me here in the rural countryside of central CA, but I love engaging in the stereotypes for fun, in my own stories. Yes, you have the perfect blend of "screw you" stated in southern genteel language! *tee! hee!*

all of this is true...maybe we love the past too much...but sometimes that simple life reminds us of being laid back and easy...with not the fuss there is today.

i just was in NC up in Deep Gap...pretty rustic and beautiful...the night before i was there, a black bear visited my sister's porch...caught on a cam....

but it wasn't having a drink...might have been looking for one.
