Sliding Rock

Sliding Rock

A Poem by James
"

When I was a kid we would go up to Ellijay Ga, and play in Holly Springs. It's the coldest water I've ever been in, but oh, so fun.

"

The spring rains have stopped
The summer sun heats up.
My mind drifts back
to those cool mountain streams,
deep pools of rolling water
and sliding rock --
better than any water park in the world.
It's easy to get to, if you know the way;
and I do.

I'll never forget Jimmy Greene
and the time he lost his cut-off shorts.
We found them, half a mile downstream.
It wouldn't have been so funny
if Becky Collins hadn't been the one to find them.
I can still see her,
dangling them just out of reach.
The water was cold
and Jimmy wasn't about to come out.

It was where I got my first kiss,
and the first time I made second base.
That was Jenny Swanson,
and she slapped my face,
but not hard.

I wonder now after so many years,
is it still there?  I'm sure it is.
Do the kids still come to play
and if they do,
will their memories be as sweet as mine?

When I was a kid we would go up to Ellijay Ga, and play i

this brings back memories.....thank you for that....i am reminded of Mad River in Vermont---

ice cold water, but such fun to swim in it...

and this also reminds me of first base, second base....and oh my, getting further...yet ending up in confession on saturdays...saying we were sorry...but wondering if we really were.

Glad it took you back and I don't think we were ever truly sorry. Thanks you.
