Sorrow's Walk

Sorrow's Walk

A Poem by James

Thick with fog and sorrow's walk
when words die slow and thoughts wander off;
a man will dream of loved ones gone
and friends who have left and those who are lost.

A friendly wave or a lover's knock
can't replace the dream and years that are gone.
Year's that have past in a moment of time;
It's time that was stolen from this memory of mine.

For what's to be said and what's to be heard
when a hand slips away without a look or a word.
Your fingers can grasp and pull at the air
In the end what is true is that you never were there.

It's an oldie...I must have been having a lonely, depressing night when I wrote it. Glad you liked.. read more

Nostalgia is one of the saddest of emotions: a retrospective of unintended failures or/and the realisation that something precious is irretrievable. ' Your fingers can grasp and pull at the air - In the end what is true is that you never were there. ' A tottering, stumbling tragedy.

Perfectly titled and worded in a way that we all know this is a cascade of softly spoken regret that is familiar to us all in one way, shape or form.
The last line brings with it a Hollow ache of knowing that pain. Beautifully captured.

I meant to say I love the subconscious state of the poem. It’s a dream.

Dreams. In this one the writer is unsure. Not remembering or choosing not. Dreaming of times with friends; dead, I friended, or in bad situations, because they are missed. Lost communication...A knock! Cures the loneliness. Brings reality forth. “Never there” All in the mind...I the subconscious state of the poem.
