Free verse
unchains expression,
unfetters creativity,
unshackles emotions,
lets me say
what I want to say
how I want to say it.

 

 

Rhythm and rhyme –
They had their time!
They make me perspire –
They need to retire!

 

But shall I opt to throw away
The disciplines of yesterday?

 

No!

 

The structure of sonnets,
the beauty of ballads,
the art of assonance
are dear to me.

 

Iambic pentameter
and free verse
are sisters to my voice.

give me free verse anytime ! i almost feel this poem would have ended neatly after the third stanza but that is only my opinion. there is beauty in structure, confinement too. the mix of freedom and constraints is an interesting choice. good write.
