Reaching

There are days when
We get so nervous that
Our listlessness transforms and
We remove all of the sleeves
From our hardbound books
Stacking them tall, we
Climb upon them to nip the moon
With the tips of our chapped fingers
We scoop into its craters until
The smiles on our faces 
Can be seen from the Andromeda
But then the sun begins its creep
And we will begin to melt away
Our legs retracting
We are becoming 
small again
Our hands doll-like, our
Joints fused by thick plastic
Frozen in time,
We keep reaching

I like this and I'm not even sure why. Free verse is hard to get right, but I think you come close. Certain phrases and ideas of yours just make a lot of sense to me.
