River's Scary Fairy

Written for my granddaughter, to bring a smile to her lips. She giggled, so I thought I'd share it, for those with their own little ones to use.

River’s Hairy Fairy

 

 

River loves a fairy,

Who’s mommy’s name is Mary.

And he is very hairy...

 

He flies like a canary.

And while he’s sometimes airy,

He’s also, very scary.

 

This fairy’s name is Jerry.

And though he seems quite merry.

His grin is...temporary.

 

He’s never ordinary,

Lives within a dairy,

And dines on fruits and berry.

 

His life is solitary.

Quiet as a cemetery...

Except for days in January.

 

Then he’s on the prairie,

Along with his secretary...

A lady he may marry.

 

They’ll live in an aviary.

With their good friend Sari.

Until the start of...February.

But now I must scurry

Not talk about my worry

Because...

 

Here...comes...Jerry,

That scary scary fairy!

 

RUN!

Reminiscient of Shell Silverstein. Your poem is excessively rhymey, like a childs might be.It seems simple, like a nursery rhyme, but it fortells of Jerry, the hairy fairy.
The Poem is carefree and fun, but it has a dark side, just as a fairy tale might.
Jerry is Scarey.
I dont know about anyone else, but I wonder if Jerry stands in as a representation of someone else. If so, who is Jerry?

It’s sweet that your granddaughter inspired this. Children have a way of bringing the most unexpected joy. I don’t have any of my own, but I’ve helped raise children through my siblings, and that kind of love leaves a lasting mark.
