Also titled Secret Life Sonnet, this was for a writing assignment in my creative writing class about the secret life of high school and the cliques and tribes
High school
Like dogs, we all find a pack
It’s the one place where we feel the need to conform to be cool
But sometimes our peers throw us off track
Only in our mind and our thoughts can we be free
Not restricted by social laws
Free to know the person you really want to be
Not to fear the RiverHawks claws
To be an individual
Athletes need muscles to break tackles
To ignore all peer pressure, even the subliminal
But we, the people, need our mental muscle to break society’s shackles
So true! (I'm in high school currently.) I especially agree with the line, "Like dogs, we all find a pack." Strength in numbers, right? Loners not accepted but rejected. Can't stand out or be different. Yeah, great poetry, very relatable. Awesome job.

I was drawn in from the first two lines. A statement that couldn't be more true. I love how at the end you say you are not going to conform like they expect you too. Great messgae and great write. Nicely done.
I'm 23 years old, married to Sarah for 3 years, and have one puppy. We just had our first angel, Audrey. I love literature and music. My wife was my biggest inspiration, the reason for over 100 pieces.. more..
