Sonnet 3 (Shakespearean Style) [How-To Write Sonnets]

I just wrote this sonnet...about writing sonnets.

Sonnets must have only ten syllables

They need to have exactly fourteen lines

And tell a story like a parable

And contain an organized set of rhymes.

Generally, they are about a love

Alas, sonnet translates to little song

Maybe comparing beauty to a dove

Follow the format and you can’t go wrong;

But, you can’t stray from your chosen topic

Stick to your message, however, don’t stress

‘Cause of errors that are microscopic

So you don’t end up with a garbled mess

  In your mind you know you are truly smart

  So close your eyes and listen to your heart.

I think you did a great job on this writing about how to write a sonnet. It has a fun and playful feel to it while at the same time it is teaching something. That is the best way to teach, I think, make it fun.
