A Poet's PlightA Poem by Nathaniel FaheyLove sick and alcoholic- My story
All I have is my writing and a warm shot of whiskey. Cigarettes burn slowly in the dark- lighting the vacant darkness you used to occupy. My mind grows hazy as thoughts of you swirl through my head- mixing with the whiskey. Your amber eyes keep looking at me beyond the smoke and confusion.Your laugh echoes through my room and rings in my ears. You sound so close and real- but I know you're with him tonight. I try to forget you. Deep breaths of smoke and alcohol burn my lungs. The pain keeps me focused on the now- reminding me of your absence when I finally return to bed. The silence is deafening. Only the flick of my lighter and the slosh of the bottle break that thick silence you left me. An empty bottle and a broken heart- this is my legacy
