In Der Feier von Literaturwirklichkeit

In Der Feier von Literaturwirklichkeit

A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss
"

my unconventional Valentine. ~~~

"

Imagine for a moment you're not hopeless.
Imagine, with your whole heart, in just this breath,
that there has been a breach in the time/space continuum.

The distance is not impossible.
The silences do not stretch miles.
The space of separation has been
broken.

Imagine. For a moment.

And then step back. Step back
and watch the stars fall from the blackened canopy,
see inked words trickle from my trembling fingers,
feel the sharp stab of my wicked tongue
as hope is lost

and everything goes on in forward motion.

Lover...

We live in a dream world. And you
can survive well enough on reality,
with the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune
and you don't stumble around
or let yourself be overwhelmed by
average human tragedies.

I, however, prefer this alternate reality
where my words protect and deflect and have
powers to wound as well as swords.
Step back, if it pleases.
You will still feel me by your side,
writing on your skyline,
whispering on your skin,

and imagining a different momentum
in which my words also
destroy your hopelessness.

Great poetry.

I, however, prefer this alternate reality
where my words protect and deflect and have
powers to wound as well as swords.
