A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss

When all the phrases of love
stop echoing in my heart's walls
I lay down on the highway of memory
and miss you
without ceasing, with wild abandon,
as books I've read and places I've been
whisk past me on the asphalt.
The hurts I've felt
pass the smiles I've given
flashing their headlights into my eyes
and running over my arms
and when
the horns are cut off, when
the sirens fade away with my body
my soul is still stretched out there
waiting, saying,
I miss you
without ceasing, with wild abandon.
