Safer But Not Silent

Several splintered seconds, conversations,
shred apart a blackened veil of
tolerance, ignorance, awkward silences
fabricated in sheets of shallow words.
From our fingers we weave
a daring dialogue, conspicuous and careless.
And despite the trouble we may have caused,
aside from shunned grumblings and
scrambling for something safer but not silent,
I regret not one moment. Every breath
I adored completely. Every sound
is precious to my ears. Every heart beat
that was shared, that was given, that
will never reoccur, I hold close to my own.
I foolishly hope that our rhythms might overlap,
mine fresh, yours fading. Music
may be heard, might be made,
and I treasure it, waiting
for your swiftly approaching silence.

You know I think I recognize this form of poetry that you seem to lean towards. We covered it in my class in college and I cannot remember for the life of me what it was. It's an old form that is making a comback, something like one would do on the mike at a poetry/coffee house? Slam poetry is it. I just wonder because of the fast erratic beat it has to it. Your writing is very good Katie, you have a way with words.
