Ride The Waves

Ride The Waves

A Poem by Joey Martinez

As I lay alone, captive on my log looking at the ocean
I just wish I had people around me, I just wanna hear commotion
Instead, all I hear are the waves crashing against my so called "boat"
And all I can think about is how long it can hold me a float
I was on a cruise with my family, all was well
But in a blink of an eye, everything went to hell
All I remember is people screaming and crying
Knowing that they are possibly dying
The boat began to capsize, and tilt on its end
I became separated from my family, there was no hand to lend
The waves struck hard and pushed me off my feet
I thought I was gonna die, that me and death were finally gonna meet
The waves pushed me hard and threw me off the boat
I landed in the ocean with the fear of drowning, I lost all hope
Then a wooden log floated on by
I climbed on it happily knowing I'm not gonna die
But luck was still not on my side
No one is around me, Its just me and the sky
So here I am, laying on my wooden log
Trying to find God up in the sky, looking through the fog
I'm stranded in the middle of the ocean
Just floating along with the waves motion
Will someone rescue me? I have no clue
I honestly don't even know what to do
My family is gone, but I have to man up and cope
Because I know a man should never lose hope
