Come Back

Come Back

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Enjoying the summer breeze of June
Sitting on a cloud watching the sun kiss the moon
High above where heaven's fumes consume
But I rather be on earth with you
I rather be suffering with you down below
Where the sun barely shines and moon doesn't glow
To move on from our love is something I lack
Believe me when I say I'm trying to come back
So I sit here outside heaven's gate
Trying to plot my great escape
Trying to rewrite the book of fate
So I can come back before its too late
I worry you'll move on and forget our times
I worry I'll be a memory forgotten within due time
God's calling, I'm next in line
But I refuse to enter, pulling off the ultimate crime
Denying God because you're not here
Hell doesn't scare me, but going to heaven without you is my only fear
