The Painter

The Painter

A Poem by Joey Martinez

The painter who portrays false art
A soul wallowing in pain from the start
But her brush depicts a different view
A broken painting covered with strokes of new
It's astonishing how she deceives the naked eye
How can the brush of a painter draw such lies?
Its astonishing how she strokes a smile over the frown
Painting over the wounds she's suffered all around
Her touch of the brush thats magnificently swift
A talented curse? Or a marvelous gift?
You will never know the pain within
A master of disguise with a tragic spin
I must admit, I am impressed by her work
Even damaged she has outstanding worth
But she needs to paint the truth
Reveal the struggle, show the pain
Instead of drawing the sun, illustrate the rain
Show us the truth
Color the pain and trace the wounds
The lies need to vanish
Perfection is boring, I'm intrigued by the damage
My heart beats for the honesty
You're a vandalized novelty
