Grow

Grow

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Thoughts overflowing once again
Hoping this would be the night it ends
But she can't escape these feelings from the past
Her mind is fragile ever since love removed her protective cast
So now she sits alone smoking her cigarette with worry
Her once clear vision of love now has been made blurry
She was foolishly in love with a man of trouble
Frantically trying to fix him for she was raised humble
Crime after crime, mistake after mistake
She never left his side, believing it's never too late
Deep down she knew he would never change
But love had her emotional wiring rearranged
Love blinded her from leaving this troublesome man
He was her ocean while she was his pebble in the sand
And as time began to tick away to days and weeks
Her love for him began to grow much more weak
But she stayed
Digging herself into emotional grave
A few days linger and her phone rings
The love of her life caught in a sting
Behind bars is where he resides
As she heard the news a piece of her dies
But she stays and she refuses to let go
Wondering if the man she loves will ever grow
