Whiskey

Whiskey

A Poem by Joey Martinez

The halo on her head was thorns in disguise.
A wicked whiskey portrayed as a wise choice of wine.
A heart full of love becomes nothing more than a simple organ.
The world of heartbreak gives birth to another orphan.
Years of promise ruined by a sentence that lasted seconds.
Being told you were the one but you were really her second.
Another affair to accommodate how unfair life truly can be.
Love at first sight made you blind but you proclaimed you can see.
The game of love continues to rack its tokens from fools like yourself.
Now it’s time to head to the bar and order top shelf liquor to make those feelings disengage quicker.
Another regular comes into play.
Do you try again or sit down and stay?
