'Ol BlackA Poem by Jonny The Savage
This belt, I wear it with pride. I can still remember the day I bought it, teary eyed in a TJ Max; just trying to hold myself together. It was five days ago I saw you on the way home from the arcade with my brother. We talked about politics and you complained about your medication. I'm so fortunate to have seen you that day, I never would have believed it would be the last time I would ever hear your voice. The last time someone would believe in me.
The first time I wore 'Ol Black was to your funeral, crying in the pew. I carried you in death as you carried me in youth. You were always there, and so proud. I'll admit, I lost myself for a bit when you died, got way over my head time and time again. What finally brought me out of it was the belt I bought for your funeral. Evert day I wear it, I feel like I'm bringing you with me and I walk with pride. Your beloved grandson © 2015 Jonny The SavageAuthor's Note
