Let’s talk about personal development! Have you ever heard or thought about personal development? Probably you don’t even have a glimpse of what it is. Let’s pause for a moment and see what it means.

Simply put, personal development is a process of self-improvement. It is not an event, but a journey. It can never happen overnight. It is a journey that you have to devote yourself to.

I can see you swimming in the thoughts of how you can even start this journey. And if you have started, how can you be better? Personal development may sound like such a wide topic but focusing on the right areas can work wonders in your precious life.

This means holistic growth in all areas of your life. Be it spiritual, social, financial, career, mental, physical, or emotional growth; you name it, these are areas you can focus on for personal development.

I know your personal development story might be a little particular. Sometimes it is up to you to be mindful of the areas you need to work on. For example, you might feel that you are okay financially, spiritually, and mentally. On the other end of the spectrum, you might feel that you need to work on your social life, career growth, physical life, etc

Even though you need to work on different areas of your life to realize holistic personal development, the good news is that these areas are interconnected. When you improve in one area of your life, it is likely to have an impact on another.

In the second paragraph of this discussion, we said personal development cannot be realized overnight. It is something you have to plan and be so much intentional about that it is vividly present in your mind or memory every now and then. Even God honors our plans; He establishes the plans of a man. Don’t forsake planning for a better life!

This journey does not call you to just plan but also requires you to be aware. Why awareness? Accurate knowledge of who you are is such a superpower as it heightens the power of decision-making in you. You get to know what to do to improve. Self-awareness enables you to know your strengths and weaknesses. Further, it helps you maximize your strengths and deal with your weaknesses.

Realizing Personal Development

It is your initiative to remain devoted if you will realize your personal development goals. The following actions will get you started and keep you on your toes:

Plan Your Personal Development- planning helps you get focused on the personal development journey. You get to know where you’re going and get cognizant of how precious time is. Planning helps you not to waste time. It also helps you put the interests of other people before yours. Get started and don’t be a master procrastinator. Get it done!

Have a Support System- a support system entails people you trust and are comfortable sharing your personal development journey. They can include life coaches, friends, family members, or religious members. They can help you on being accountable for your personal development journey and plans.

Be Disciplined, Focused, Consistent, and Committed to Your Plans- I don’t have an alternative to this. If you have to realize your personal development goals, you have to be conscious of them.

Record Your Personal Development Goals- Put them down on paper, in your smartphone’s notebook, or you can even do journaling.

Evaluate Your Performance in Each Area of Personal Development- You can have a method of evaluating your personal development journey and how regularly you measure your performance in each area. For example, you can scale each area at a scale of 1�"10. If you identify an area with low performance, you can focus on improving on that area. For the areas that you think you are doing well, leverage these strengths to be the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Everybody can be better, but not all accept to grow. Be among those who desire to produce the best out of themselves. Personal development is what makes a distinction between you and others.
