Great Pretender

Great Pretender

A Poem by Kitty

I had a dream last night.
I was on stage
Performing a one-man play.
I had so many roles to play,
So many lines to say
That I got them all confused.

You were in the audience,
Laughing at me.
It was meant to be drama
Not a comedy,
But still you laughed
Along with everyone else!

I tried to straighten out
What went wrong,
But it just made you laugh even more.
I tried to run,
To hide,
To stop the laughter,
But everything I did
Encouraged a bigger uproar.

I fell to my knees
And started to cry.
Suddenly the laughter stopped -
The hall was silent.
I looked up
And saw your face.
I glanced around
And noticed many other familiar faces,
All staring at me
Expectantly.

I looked around the stage
And saw the bed.
It was MY bed.
MY room.
Then it hit me:
This wasn't a play -
It was my LIFE!
Everyone was watching me,
Laughing at me...

I woke up in a cold-sweat,
And tried to shake the dream
Out of my head.
But as I opened my eyes,
I saw the same stage
As in my dream
And I realised,
My life is just an act.

Quite brilliantly you create a world, rip back the curtains to unveil another world, and then once more pull this back to unveil your life stage. Your world within worlds, watched by the audience of critics and cynics who thrill at your faults and failures... Pained and brilliant...

Finding peace has always been a struggle for me. But if there is one thing I can wish for the world, it's peace, love, more tolerence, faith, hope and trust. I hope you find it somewhere out there.... more..
