All the Demons in My Head (Won't Leave Me)

I close my eyes

And think about

My troubled life;

My troubled mind.

I feel the emotions

Building up inside –

The pain;

The hate;

The anger;

The fear.

Why won’t these demons

Leave me alone?

They’ve been here so long

That I know them all by name.

So many people have tried

To help me cast the demons out,

But they all use the wrong techniques;

Speak the wrong incantation.

These demons have

A cruel sense of humour –

With each attempt to get them out,

They just laugh

And settle further in,

Chaining themselves

To my already dark and heavy mind.

I’ve forgotten what sleep feels like.

It’s been so long

Since I’ve been left to dream;

So long since I’ve been left in peace.

But I’ll let them stay

For a little while longer,

Just until I find the right chant;

Find the right technique –

Perhaps a nifty revolver

To blow these fuckers out.

I’ll be rid of them

With a final spray of red…

Okay, let me just say that this is incredibly powerful and profound!!! The pain so vivid; each line so full of the strangling hold of dark spirits... This so clearly communicates fear and dread and hopelessness... It could so be the title poem of a powerful book about life and death (and everything in between)... So sadly moving in a million ways...
