What it means to be alone

I should have known,
that they would leave me out here
on my own,
they didn't care I've stayed here
so alone,
just one voice in this place
oh so unknown.

I should have seen,
that no one knows exactly
what I mean,
when I say I give up on
what I've been,
now I'm so soulless, hungry,
cold and lean.

I should have known,
that they would leave me out here
all alone,
a dying mutt just begging
for a bone,
no one has heard my cry, my pain,
my groan.

I've wrote a song,
it's what I should have done here
all along,
the words light up the dark
and make me strong,
although it doesn't rhyme.....

....I should have known.

This piece plays out in my head like a very slow, sad spanish song.
If you don't hear the guitars, I guess I've done something wrong... ;)
