The City

The City

A Poem by Julianna Marie

The scent of Seattle still on your cheek,
Goosebumps cover our arms like a disease--
We could put on jackets,
but we like to feel the night,
to feel the chill,
to feel something...for once.
Streetlights fade into sunrise,
but we are not phased.
Streetlights fade into sunrise,
but we still won't fall asleep.
...If I close my eyes, I'm sure you'll disappear.
...If you close your eyes, you're sure I'll disappear.
Grasping onto eachother like we're holding on for dear life--
I pull your hands towards me
and pray you won't let go.
I pull your hands towards me
but you pull away so easily.
The reflection of the city in your eyes,
Skyscrapers reach for the stars,
reach for the dreams that you were always so afraid to acheive.
You turn to me, and I feel so exposed.
You turn to me, and each one of my layers turns into candle wax.
Our eyes communicate what our mouths never could.
The whispers of the night make my ears ring,
and only then do I realize how silent we've become.
...Its as if we've lost our voices in our quests to find ourselves.
Streetlights fade into sunrise, and we fade away.
