First Kiss

~ a Spanish Sestet or Sextilla ~

I won't forget the lovely bliss

of tender warmth found in a kiss

that left a blush upon my cheek

‘twas softer than a butterfly

whispering through a crystal sky

light as a breath, no words to speak

 

Just peacefulness surrounding me

as flowers bloomed in harmony

and in the trees, I reminisce,

of birds in song weaving sunbeams

around my heart and now it seems

I won't forget summer’s first kiss

Author's Note

The sextilla, or Spanish sestet is a type of sestet (6 line verse) that follows a set rhyme pattern. The rhyme pattern can be either aabccb or abbacc. Each line usually has 8 syllables. You may have more than one sextilla in a poem, but it must follow the same rhyme pattern.
