Balboa Street

Balboa Street

The trees on Balboa Street are bare…

It’s January,

                                    the new year upon us

to some, it may seem insignificant

on this unimportant morning

you sleepy eyed and tousled

and me…

                                                tangled in quiet unrest

waiting for dawn to warm the magnolias

in silken white

and ivory scented hues

as birds awaken in sheltered nests

                         and children appear

                                  giggling

at lover’s walking, hand in hand

                                     captured with the beauty

of lacy blooms, glistening

I look to you and sigh….

the trees on Balboa Street are bare

Julie, this is gorgeous.
I see two meanings here, one that the love doesn't live there anymore, though the roots are still firmly planted, the other (preferred interpretation) those bare trees are naked, vulnerable and ready for love to come round again. Either way it's stunning.

Yes, that nostalgic feeling, longing for warmer times. I miss spring and summer too. Beautiful poem, as always. :) Rudi

This is a marvelous scribble! One of my favorite things about this piece is that it embraces both the wonder and the bare landscape of the New Year. Your poem shows us that these morning are important. Loved the winter imagery in this piece.
